A teddy bed is a bed frame upholstered in a soft, short-pile plush fabric that resembles the texture of a teddy bear or sherpa fleece. The fabric covers the headboard and typically the frame sides, giving the bed a warm, tactile quality that smooth upholstered beds do not have.
Brush the fabric regularly with a soft clothes brush or lint roller to remove surface fluff and dust. For spot cleaning, use a slightly damp cloth with mild soap and allow to dry naturally. Avoid abrasive cleaning products that can damage the pile.
With regular brushing and gentle care, teddy fabric maintains its texture well. Areas that receive more direct contact, such as where you lean against the headboard, may compress slightly over time, but this can usually be restored with a gentle brush to lift the pile.
Cream and off-white are the most popular teddy bed colours in the UK. Grey, caramel, mocha, and blush tones are also widely available, with the neutral end of the palette being the most versatile for pairing with existing bedroom decor.
Teddy beds suit contemporary, Scandi, and cosy or maximally soft bedroom aesthetics particularly well. In more minimal or industrial rooms, the softness of the fabric can provide a useful contrast, though the overall effect depends on how the rest of the room is styled.
