Every few years a bedroom trend arrives that feels less like a passing fad and more like a correction. After a long run of pared back, almost apologetic bedrooms, 2026 is the year glamour came back. Rounded wings, deep vertical channels and stepped headboards that look like a city skyline are turning up everywhere, from design magazines to the feeds of people who would never have called themselves maximalists.
It has a name, too. Dreams' 2026 bedroom design trends point to Pinterest predicting a "neo deco" year: the iconic shapes of the 1920s and 1930s, given a sleeker, more modern finish. The bed is the obvious place to bring that look in, because it is already the biggest thing in the room.
What makes a bed feel Art Deco
You do not need gold leaf or a mirrored ceiling to get the look. Art Deco design is really about three things: strong geometry, repetition and a sense of occasion. On a bed, that usually shows up as vertical channelling (the padded ribs that run up the headboard), symmetrical stepped or arched outlines, and wings that curve in around the pillows.
The Gideon Art Deco Channelled Bed is the clearest example in our range. Its headboard is built from deep vertical panels that rise towards a raised centre, so the whole bed reads as one architectural piece. If you prefer a softer outline, the Tobias Art Deco Wingback Bed takes the same channelled detail and wraps it into curved wings, which gives a more cocooning, hotel suite feel.
Channelled wingbacks: the modern middle ground
Not everyone wants a full 1930s statement, and that is where channelled wingbacks come in. They borrow the ribbed texture of Deco design but keep the overall shape classic, so they sit comfortably in a modern bedroom without feeling like a period set.
The Boaz Channelled Wingback Bed is a good place to start if you like the look but want it to feel calm rather than theatrical. For something a little grander, the Elisha Luxury Wingback Bed has a fuller, more tailored wing that suits larger rooms and high ceilings. You can see every shape side by side in our wingback beds collection.
If you want the linear rhythm of channelling without the wings at all, the Jeremiah Lined Upholstered Bed keeps things simple with clean vertical lines across a flat panel headboard. It is the most understated way to nod to the trend.
Go taller than you think
Art Deco design was always about height. Think of the stepped towers of the era and the long, vertical lines that pull the eye upwards. A channelled headboard that stops just above the pillows can look a little cut short, so this is one trend where adding height genuinely pays off.
Most of our Deco inspired beds can be ordered with a 60 or 70 inch floor standing headboard, and our high headboard beds are worth browsing if you want the bed to anchor the whole wall. In a room with average ceiling height, a 54 to 60 inch headboard is usually the sweet spot. In a period property or a loft room with taller ceilings, going higher really lets the channels breathe.
The fabric makes or breaks it
Channelling relies on light and shadow. Each rib catches light on one side and falls into shade on the other, and that contrast is what gives a Deco headboard its depth. Fabrics with a slight sheen show this off best, which is why velvet is the natural partner for this style.
Our plush velvet beds give the richest finish, especially in deeper colours like charcoal, black or blue, where the channels almost look carved. If you prefer a softer, more relaxed take, a boucle or chenille finish keeps the shape but quietens the glamour, which can work well in a lighter, Scandinavian leaning room.
Styling an Art Deco bed without overdoing it
The bed is already doing the heavy lifting, so let it lead. A few simple rules help:
- Keep bedding plain or tonal so the channels stay the focus.
- Add one or two metallic touches, such as a brass lamp base or a mirrored bedside, rather than a full set.
- Repeat curves elsewhere in the room, for example a round mirror or an arched lampshade.
- Choose rich, grounded wall colours over bright white, which can make the look feel cold.
